Millie Pearl Dowdell, 92 of 4420 Youngstown Rd., Warren, departed this life Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 9:25 p.m. at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born July 7, 1917 in Auburn, AL the daughter of Thomas and Millie Reese Dowdell, coming to the area in 1943.

Mrs. Dowdell was a member of House of Prayer, where she was Treasurer, Usher, Mission Department, Kitchen Committee and Church Mother. She belonged to the Women’s Patriotic Club, Mothers March of Dimes and enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, crossword puzzles, antiques, traveling and was an avid Cavaliers fan.

She married Van Dowdell in 1935, he died May 21, 1988.

She leaves to mourn 4 sons, Joseph (Marilyn) Dowdell of Yellow Springs, OH, James (Juanita) Dowdell of Bedford Heights, OH, Millikin (Cheryl) Dowdell of North Brunswick, NJ and Samuel Dowdell of Austintown, OH; 1 daughter, Vancenia (H. Phillip) Rutherford of Springfield, OH; a niece (who was like a daughter), Sarah Cofield of Warren; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at House of Prayer. Calling Hours: 10:00-11:00 a.m. (one hour prior to service). Burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at 2424 Burton Street, S.E., the home of her niece, Sarah Cofield.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Professional services of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
