Obituary
Evelina L. Smith, 71 of 838 Rex Blvd., N.W., Warren departed this life Friday, February, 19, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. at her residence of natural causes.
She was born April 5, 1938 in Warren, OH, the daughter of Henry Lincoln and Mary Magdalene Felton Sellers Sr.
Mrs. Smith was an Associate Professor for 35 years at Kent State University Trumbull Branch, before retiring August 31, 2007. During her tenure at KSU, she was an exchange professor for 16 months at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, Co-Chair of the Cultural Diversity Committee and facilitator of the African American History Month.
She also was employed with the Warren Trumbull County Public Library for 15 years and 6 years with the Youngstown Public Library.
She was a member of I.G.A.S. Church, director of Project Outreach, Trumbull African American Achievers’ Association, Executive Board of Directors for 2 North Park and Warren/Trumbull UMADOP, Community Solutions and the Trumbull Correctional Institute Library Committee, Fairhaven Work/Training Program and enjoyed working with the youth and making jewelry.
Mrs. Smith received her BS degree in Education from Youngstown State University, dual teaching certification in math and English and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Case Western Reserve University.
She leaves to mourn 1 half sister, Grace Ziegler of Niles and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elliott Smith, 1 sister, Rosemarie D. Sellers and 1 half brother, Henry Lincoln Sellers Jr.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Chapel. Family visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00 a.m.
