Ernest Layton Jackson Jr., 62, of 1410 Palmyra Rd., Warren departed this life Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 30, 1947 in Beckley, WV, the son of Ernest L. and Mattie B. Wicks Jackson Sr.
Mr. Jackson was employed with Roadway Express for 30 years as a Truck Driver, before retiring in 2004. He was a member of Third Christian Church, VFW, and Community Volunteer Council.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and the U.S. Army National Guards as a Sergeant from Nov. 1, 1971- Dec. 13, 2007, participating in the Vietnam War. He recently served 18 months in Iraq with the 237th Forward Support Company as a truck driver. He received numerous honors. He was a 1965 graduate of Stratton High School and completed Heavy Duty Truck Driving School.
He married the former Estella Allen July 31, 1970.
Besides his wife of Warren, he leaves to mourn 2 sons, Eric Jackson of Columbus, OH and Ernest L. Jackson III of Warren, OH; 1 daughter, Aeshya S. Jackson of Warren; 3 brothers, David (Ahn) Jackson of Moreno Valley, CA, Lonnie (Ann) Jackson of Ft. Washington, MD and Gary (Marsha) Jackson of Beckley, WV; 1 sister, Rev. Charlotte (Doug) Ritchie of Ft. Washinton, MD; 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Kenny Jackson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Third Christian Church. Calling Hours: 10:00-11:00 a.m. (one hr. prior to services). Burial in Beckley, WV.
Family will receive friends at 1410 Palmyra Rd., the home of his wife, Estella A. Jackson.
