Obituary
Albert A. Robinson, 87, of 119 Early Road, Youngstown, departed this life Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 9:27 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 20, 1922 in Alamo, GA the son of Alexander and Ora Mae Coleman Robinson, coming to the area in 1924.
Mr. Robinson was the oldest employee working for General Motors Lordstown for 25 years as a Wielder, retiring again in 2008. He also worked for U.S. Steel Corp. as a Wielder, before retiring in 1980. Albert always kept busy and didn’t start working for GM until after he retired from U.S. Steel.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he was a Lay Leader, Trustee, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Choir, Commission of Religion and Race, and served as the first Chairman for the Black Methodist for Church Renewal. He was Grand Worthy Patron for the State of Ohio (1975), Worshipful Master of Covenant Lodge #59 (1965), past Patron of the Eastern Stars Covenant Chapter #48 (1974), was a delegate for the Democratic National Convention (Obama) and loved collecting coins, sports cards, and enjoyed spending time with children. He attended Youngstown State University and was a certified Skilled Tradesmen in Wielding.
Mr. Robinson served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class in World War II from 1941-1943 receiving several honors.
He married Linda Johnson Robinson Feb. 2, 1991.
Besides his devoted wife of Youngstown, he leaves to mourn 2 loving daughters, Mrs. Janice (James III) Smith of Youngstown and Mrs. LaTonya (Ivan Sr.) Williams of Lithonia, GA; 2 foster daughters, Ms. Bonnie Benton and Ms. Marjorie Schroder both of Washington, DC; 2 brothers, Curtis Robinson and Melvin D. Robinson both of Youngstown; 1 sister, Ms. Elinor B. Miller of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Rev. Darlene Robinson of Elyria; 8 grandchildren, Dasan Robinson, Racole Williams, Michael Williams, Marlon Williams, David Robinson, Chante Williams, Dennis Robinson and Ivan Williams Jr.; 2 great grandchildren, Montrell and Cordarrell Fish Jr. and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Rev. Dennis A. Robinson; wife, Helen A. Bolling Robinson; 1 sister, Alvertis Robinson and 1 brother, Willie James Robinson.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 7th at 12:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, friends may call one hr. prior to service. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
